Honda/Acura 3.5L V6 Engine Issue – Investigation

Honda/Acura 3.5L V6 Engine Issue – Investigation Alert (Short)

We are investigating reported concerns involving certain Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with 3.5L V6 engines, relating to potential engine performance issues and premature internal wear. If your vehicle is affected, you may contact us confidentially and free of charge. No lawsuit has been filed and no class proceeding has been certified in British Columbia.

Honda/Acura 3.5L V6 Engine Issue – Investigation (Detailed)

Our firm is reviewing reported concerns involving certain Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with 3.5L V6 engines, where owners have experienced engine noise, misfires, loss of power, hesitation, or engine stalling.

Reports reviewed to date suggest that, in some cases, internal engine components—including the crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, and pistons—may experience premature wear or damage. Some owners report that these issues may lead to significant engine malfunction requiring major repairs or engine replacement.

Certain manufacturer actions, including recalls affecting a subset of vehicles, have addressed aspects of crankshaft manufacturing. However, based on available information, some owners report continued engine concerns outside the scope of those actions.

At this stage, no lawsuit has been filed and no class proceeding has been certified. This review is ongoing and remains preliminary.

Potential Automotive Class Proceeding Under Investigation: Honda/Acura 3.5L V6 Engine Performance and Internal Wear Issues

Our firm is currently investigating a potential Canada-wide class proceeding, including in British Columbia, concerning reported concerns affecting vehicles equipped with Honda’s 3.5L V6 engine, including:

·         Acura RLX – 2014–2020

·         Acura TLX – 2015–2020

·         Acura MDX – 2016–2020 and 2022–present

·         Honda Pilot – 2016–2022

·         Honda Odyssey – 2018–present

·         Honda Passport – 2019–2025

·         Honda Ridgeline – 2017–present

Reports reviewed to date indicate that some vehicles may experience premature internal engine wear, which may affect components of the rotating assembly, including the crankshaft and related parts. These conditions may result in:

·         Engine knocking or abnormal noise

·         Misfires or rough operation

·         Hesitation or reduced acceleration

·         Loss of power or stalling

·         Warning lights or diagnostic fault codes

In certain cases, continued operation under these conditions may contribute to progressive internal engine damage, which may ultimately lead to significant engine failure. Concerns have also been raised in some reports regarding the potential for secondary risks, including overheating or related mechanical issues. No conclusions have been reached regarding the frequency or likelihood of such outcomes.

Publicly available information indicates that a recall was issued for certain vehicles relating to crankshaft manufacturing tolerances. However, some reports suggest that not all affected vehicles or conditions may have been addressed by that recall.

This investigation is ongoing and is being conducted to determine whether the legal requirements under British Columbia’s Class Proceedings Act are met, including whether common issues exist and whether a class proceeding would be the preferable procedure.

If you own or lease an affected Honda or Acura vehicle and have experienced persistent engine issues, unusual noise, or significant repair costs related to engine performance, you may contact us to share your experience. Providing information is confidential, free of charge, and does not obligate you to retain our firm or participate in any legal proceeding.
