GM 10-Speed Transmission Issue – Investigation (Detailed)
Our firm is reviewing reported concerns involving General Motors vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions (10L series), including vehicles from approximately the 2018 model year onward, where owners have experienced drivability and transmission performance issues.
Reports reviewed to date describe symptoms such as harsh or erratic shifting, delayed engagement, shuddering, slipping, hesitation, and inconsistent acceleration or deceleration. In some cases, these issues may persist despite multiple dealership visits or attempted repairs.
At this stage, no lawsuit has been filed, and no class proceeding has been certified in British Columbia. This review remains preliminary.
Potential Automotive Class Proceeding Under Investigation:
GM 10-Speed Transmission Defect – 2018–Present Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac Vehicles
Our firm is currently investigating a potential Canada-wide class proceeding, including in British Columbia, concerning General Motors vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions (10L60, 10L80, 10L90, and 10L1000).
Based on available information, affected vehicles may include, but are not limited to:
Chevrolet
− Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – 2019–present
− Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD / 3500HD – 2020–present
− Chevrolet Tahoe – 2018–present
− Chevrolet Suburban – 2019–present
− Chevrolet Camaro (select trims) – 2019–2024
GMC
− GMC Sierra 1500 – 2019–present
− GMC Sierra 2500HD / 3500HD – 2020–present
− GMC Yukon / Yukon XL – 2018–present
Cadillac
− Cadillac Escalade / Escalade ESV – 2018–present
− Cadillac CT4 / CT5 / CT6 (select trims) – 2019–present
(Exact inclusion may vary based on engine and transmission configuration.)
Reports reviewed to date suggest that certain transmissions may exhibit a common defect affecting the coordination of internal components and control systems, resulting in inconsistent or unreliable shift behavior.
Reported manifestations include:
− Harsh, abrupt, or erratic shifting, including banging or clunking
− Delayed or hesitant acceleration, particularly from a stop
− Shuddering, slipping, or gear hunting
− Unexpected surging or lunging
− Loss of propulsion or reduced power
In some reported cases, these issues may escalate to sudden loss of drive power or momentary wheel lock-up during certain driving conditions, which may increase the risk of a collision.
Available information indicates that manufacturer responses have included technical service bulletins, software updates, and component replacements, including valve body and control system modifications. However, reported outcomes may vary and may not provide a permanent resolution in all cases.
This investigation is ongoing and is being conducted to determine whether the legal requirements under British Columbia’s Class Proceedings Act are met, including whether common issues exist and whether a class proceeding would be the preferable procedure.
