Land Rover / Range Rover MHEV DC-DC Converter and Electrical System Defect

Our firm is investigating a potential Canada-wide class proceeding concerning certain Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles equipped with Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (“MHEV”) systems.

According to the allegations and publicly available complaints, some owners have reported:

–        Sudden vehicle shutdowns while driving;

–        Loss of propulsion or engine stalling;

–        Inability to restart the vehicle;

–        Repeated battery drainage issues;

–        Electrical system failures;

–        Loss of steering assist or braking functionality following electrical shutdowns; and

–        Significant delays in obtaining replacement components due to alleged parts backorders.

The investigation currently concerns certain:

–        Land Rover Defender (2020 onward);

–        Range Rover (2020 onward);

–        Range Rover Sport (2019 onward);

–        Range Rover Velar (2020 onward);

–        Range Rover Evoque (2019 onward);

–        Discovery (2020 onward); and

–        Discovery Sport (2019 onward) vehicles equipped with MHEV systems.

Publicly available materials further indicate that Jaguar Land Rover issued technical service materials relating to MHEV DC-DC converter failures, including references to “internal failure” of the 48V DC-DC converter and associated charging issues.

The investigation is reviewing whether the alleged issues may materially impair vehicle safety, reliability, utility, durability, and value.
